Thank you to everyone who entered our Summer Competion held in association with the RSPB reserve at the Crook of Baldoon.
We were delighted with the number of entrants but also the imagination and vibrancy of the entries.
The judging was on Tuesday and the decisions have been made. Paul Tarling from the RSPB reserve, Shirley Harford from Hippidippies Gi%s and Gallery in Wigtown and Steve Dowling from Dowling Stoves had a difficult task and I must say I was glad I only had to sit back and watch the deliberations.
Overall the judging was close in both categories but the winners were:
In under 16’s category - Abby Gray with a beautiful painting of a swan, Paul was especially taken with the energy and effort of a swan coming into land that Abby managed to convey.
In the 16 and over category - Elliot Gray with a wonderfully atmospheric view of the Crook, everyone’s eye was immediately captivated by this image.
The winners in each category receive vouchers donated by the RSPB to redeem at the Galloway Gems and Craft Centre in Castle Douglas and every other entry in each category will receive a small consolation prize courtesy of the RSPB and Dennis McCallum, one of our arists in “The Nature of Galloway” exhibition. The winning entries in each category will also be exhibited in the exhibition.
Below are all entries from both age categories
